The Health Ministries Association (HMA) is the National Professional Membership organization for Faith Community Nurses/Parish Nurses. They developed the Faith Community Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice in collaboration with the American Nurses Association.  The HMA offers health ministry’s consultation and support and various resources. The annual membership fee is $50. For more information go to www.hmassoc.org or call 1-800-723-4291  – the new edition of the scope and standards is available through this organization.

Annette Jesh (St Cloud area Coordinator) received this update from Faith Community Nurse, Joyce Simones, RN, EdD, Professor, Department of Nursing Science, St. Cloud State University.

Contact Hours for our RN license renewal are now 60 minutes in length rather than 50.  Also can count in 15 minutes increments. It came from Melissa Wolfe, MN Board of Nursing – this was changed in October 2017, the MN Board of Nursing adopted new rules re: CEU’s.

    Scope and Standards Update:

Please note that the Scope and Standards update that was in last month’s newsletter was to give you an update on the latest edition and keep you connected with what is going on nationally.  I believe that you are practicing within the scope and standards each in your own way. Thank you for the quarterly reports, as this is a wonderful “snapshot” of your role in your congregation.

    Meditation for the “Heart”

    Lord Speak to Me

Lord Speak to me, that I may speak in living echoes of your tone; as you have sought, so let me seek your erring children lost and lone.

O lead me, Lord, that I may lead the wandering and the wavering feet; O feed me Lord, that I may feed your hungering ones with manna sweet.

O teach me, Lord, that I may teach the precious things that you impart; and wing my words, that they may reach the hidden depths of many-a-heart.

O fill me with your fullness, Lord, until my very heart overflows in kindling thought and glowing word, your love to tell, your praise to show.

O use me, Lord, use even me, just as you will, and when, and where, until your blessed face I see, your rest, your joy, your glory share.    Amen

(Covenant Hymnal #620: Frances Haveregal, Robert Schumann 1800’s)
