Please know that your participation is still very valuable. The copy of “Through the Wilderness” book and curriculum you received can still be implemented. PLAN now for the fall in presenting this to the adult groups in your congregation, as many COMMUNITEES are becoming Dementia Friendly. Duluth has been working on becoming an Alzheimer’s Friendly community.

This is very timely with our Congregational Educational tool that you all have received (“Through the Wilderness”).  Carlton has been going through this process since last year and now Duluth is in this process. God has certainly helped with our timing in this community need;  For more resources on this process click on this LINK “Dementia  Friendly Faith Community”  at http://www.actonalz.org/community-resources

Here are some suggestions from the website on Being a Welcoming Faith Community:

  • Always be respectful toward the person with Alzheimers
  • Wear a nametag and gret the person warmly, using simple sentences and calm voice
  • Be patient and acceptin fo the person’s behavior and appearcance.
  • Resond in supportive ways
  • Help unite the person with family members if he or she appears to be disoriented or lsot.
  • Send “thinking of you” notes and cards; include worship bulletins and newsletters to help the family stay connected.
  • Provide ongoing prayer support for the person with Alzheimer’s and family members.

Lord, Speak to Me

Lord, speak to me, that I may speak in living echoes of your tone; as you have sought, so let me seek your erring children lost and lone.

O lead me, Lord, that I may lead the wandering and the wavering feet; O feed me, Lord that I may feed your hungering ones with manna sweet.

O teach me, Lord, that I may teach the precious things that you impart; and wing my words, that they may reach the hidden depths of many a heart.

O fill me with your fullness, Lord, until my very heart over flows in kindling thought and glowing word, your love to tell, your praise to show.

O use me, Lord, use even me, just as you will, and when, and where, until your blessed face I see, your rest, your joy, your glory share.       AMEN.

(Hymn #620 – Covenant Hymnal, Words by Frances Havergal, Music; Robert Schumann – 1800’s)

May God speak to you in this season of rest and renewal and give you peace and reassurance.

Thank you for all that you do.
