May Newsletter

This Month our meeting will be on Thursday May 12, from Noon to 2:30PM at First Covenant Church, 2101 W 2nd Street, Duluth – Pam will host and lunch will be served.

PROGRAM:   Jenny Peterson from Generations will be our guest and will be leading us in a Focus Group Session. They (St Luke’s Hosp, Essentia Health, and the St Louis County Public Health Dept) are seeking community input from a cross-section of community members to find out what is working well for health and what the areas of great concern are.   Keep this in mind when you attend that day.

DIRECTIONS:

From South: Take Hwy 35N to the 21st Ave West Exit (Left lane). Then staying in the Right lane, circle around under the freeway – the Church will be on your LEFT.

From North: Take 53 into Duluth. Go past the Mall, and at Trinity Rd make a Right (follow signs to 35W) coming down Piedmont Ave – exit at the 21st Ave West ramp. The Church will be directly in front of you.

Medication side effects are a huge issue for older adults and caregivers. The U.S. Administration for Community Living partnered with scientists at the Center for Disease Control and National Institute on Aging to develop educational materials about the impact of certain medications on brain health for older adults and questions to ask health care providers. The materials include a PowerPoint, a brochure and one page handout for consumers. You can find this at:   http://www.acl.gov/Get_Help/BrainHealth/Index.aspx

Reflection for Nurses Week

A meditation by Jean deBlois, CSJ

Catholic Health Association of the United States

Jesus, you are the Healer

who calls all nurses to serve and to care for people in your name.

As we carry out this holy ministry, be with us,

Bless us with the wisdom of your Holy Spirit

and fill us with the compassion

that allows us to put the needs of those we serve before all else.

In the midst of this highly technological and often impersonal age

let us not forget that nursing is fundamentally about being with people in need.

It is about touch. . . a listening presence . . . a willing and compassionate heart

that sees beyond symptoms and signs of illness

to a person in need and to their community of concern.

Help us embrace the charism that is nursing. . . to make it our own

and in doing so bring your healing presence into the lives of people in need.

In you holy name we pray.

Amen
