Duluth is at work on becoming an Alzheimer’s Friendly community.

This is very timely with our Congregational Educational tool that you all have received (“Through the Wilderness”).  Carlton has been going through this process since last year and now Duluth is in this process. God has certainly helped with our timing in this community need;  For more resources on this process click on this LINK “Demetia  Friendly Faith Community”  at

http://www.actonalz.org/community-resources

Here are some suggestions from the website on Being a Welcoming Faith Community:

  • Always be respectful toward the person with Alzheimers
  • Wear a nametag and greet the person warmly, using simple sentences and calm voice
  • Be patient and accepting of the person’s behavior and appearance.
  • Resond in supportive ways
  • Help unite the person with family members if he or she appears to be disoriented or lost.
  • Send “thinking of you” notes and cards; include worship bulletins and newsletters to help the family stay connected.
  • Provide ongoing prayer support for the person with Alzheimer’s and family members.

The DECC is looking for employees:

OPEN ENROLLMENT for Mn sure. (Health Insurance)

The next open enrollment period will, in effect, only be two weeks shorter that previous open enrollments, running from 11/1/2017-1/14/2018.  The federal open enrollment is 11/1/2017-12/15/2017, and MNsure is creating a special enrollment period for all Minnesotans from 12/16/2017-1/14/2018.

This is coming on the heels of more good news – at least in the short-term – with the proposed rates for 2018 holding steady and in some cases going down.  That is, given that federal approval is granted for the reinsurance program.

 What’s a Good Death?

Polls asking Americans about how they would like to die indicate that most of us want a peaceful transition with the end spent at home surrounded by our loved ones. Yet the reality is that far fewer that voice this preference actually spend their final days in this way. One reason for this disparity is that people are not clear about their preferences for end-of-life care, leaving their family members unsure of the most important decision anyone can make.  Come join us talk about the how’s and why’s of this important discussion.

NAMI – Family to Family Classes.

Our family to family class will be offered this fall.  The dates are September 10 to November 19, Sunday evenings from 5:00 – 8:00.  The class will be held at the Birch Tree Center Conference Room.  The Center is located at 4720 Burning Tree Road up by Bridgeman’s at the Mall.

Family members of a loved one living with mental illness want to know how they can help their loved one.  Family members and caregivers usually play the largest role in caring for someone with a mental illness.  Millions of people have experienced the questions and thoughts you may be having right now.  Family to family is an 11 week course designed for you.  Pre registration is required:   Call Melanie 218 213-4798 or Cindy 218-355-8928

As you begin your new season in ministry – –

May God’s Love Be Fixed Upon You

May God’s love be fixed upon above you, overshadow you with grace; may God’s love stand firm beneath you, welcome you with glad embrace! Alleluia! Alleluia! Glorify the Lord with praise!

May God’s love advance before you, vigilant of all your ways; may God’s love keep watch behind you, shielding you through all your days! Alleluia! Alleluia! Glorify the Lord with praise!

May God’s love be close beside you, qualify you for life’s race; may God’s love live deep within you, with assurance of his grace! Alleluia! Alleluia! Glorify the Lord with praise!

May God’s love remain upon you, and your faithfulness repay, with a peace the world can’t give you, neither shall it take away! Alleluia! Alleluia! Glorify the Lord this day!
